(Washington, D.C.) In my capacity as Co-Chair of the Canada-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Group, I had the opportunity to attend the National Governors’ Association Winter Meeting from February 19-22. Along with Senator Wilfred Moore of Nova Scotia and Members of Parliament John Brassard of Barrie-Innisfil and Randeep Sarai of Surrey Centre, we ensured that Canada had a strong presence at the conference. Canadian parliamentarians had the opportunity to speak with a number of American Governors and bring their attention to relevant bilateral issues such as improving cross-border trade flows, common security, cross-boundary waters and promoting innovative economies, just to name a few. The NGA also heard from U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, who spoke on a number of initiatives that both federal and state government were successfully implementing.
